TV File Naming Convention Empty
PostSubject: TV File Naming Convention   TV File Naming Convention Icon_minitimeMon Nov 24, 2008 2:55 am

I'd like some input from folks on how to best store my TV Show library to work with XBMC Media Companion.

Right now I have:
-Movies
--- Movie Name Folder
----- Movie Name.mkv
----- Movie Name.tbn
----- Movie Name-fanart.jpg

-TV
--- TV Series Name
----- TV Series Name Season 1x
------- TV Series Name 1x01 - Episode Name 1.mkv
------- TV Series Name 1x02 - Episode Name 2.mkv
----- TV Series Name Season 2x
------- TV Series Name 2x01 - Episode Name 1.mkv
------- TV Series Name 2x02 - Episode Name 2.mkv
--- TV Series Name
----- TV Series Name Season 1
------- TV Series Name Season 1 [DISC 1].iso
------- TV Series Name Season 1 [DISC 2].iso
----- TV Series Name Season 2
------- TV Series Name Season 2 [DISC 1].iso
------- TV Series Name Season 2 [DISC 2].iso

I am not sure what I should change about this. I want to take advantage of XBMC MC scraping for TV show and episode information. But right now I get a bunch of stuff downloaded into every folder and the NFOs don't seem to make sense.

Any advice much appreciated.

This is what I do, and have never had issues.

For movies, I have a folder called Movies.

Then inside that, a folder for each movie.

E.g. inside Movies:

\Sin City (2005)
Sin City (2005).avi
Sin City (2005).nfo
Sin City (2005).tbn

Having years next to your movie greatly assists with scraping... and in the library on XBMC when you're using it, the year doesn't show up next to the title, so you don't even know it's there.

TV Shows:

Check out my post in this forum (Help and Usage)... link here

Do what I suggested for tv shows and you'll have no problems... if you want them to be different you'll have to look things up... renaming all your tv shows to something that will DEFINITELY work (what I suggested) might be quicker than looking up what you'd need to do for your own naming convention

Good luck

for tv shows, here's my setup:

-TV
--TV Series Name
----Season 1
------tv.series.name.s01e01.avi
------tv.series.name.s01e02.avi
----Season 2
------tv.series.name.s02e01.avi
------tv.series.name.s02e02.avi

but your current naming convention should work fine.

-TV
--- TV Series Name
----- TV Series Name Season 1x
------- TV Series Name 1x01 - Episode Name 1.mkv
------- TV Series Name 1x02 - Episode Name 2.mkv
----- TV Series Name Season 2x
------- TV Series Name 2x01 - Episode Name 1.mkv
------- TV Series Name 2x02 - Episode Name 2.mkv

The above should work without any issues

--- TV Series Name
----- TV Series Name Season 1
------- TV Series Name Season 1 [DISC 1].iso
------- TV Series Name Season 1 [DISC 2].iso
----- TV Series Name Season 2
------- TV Series Name Season 2 [DISC 1].iso
------- TV Series Name Season 2 [DISC 2].iso
No nfo will be scraped for these, you need individual episodes for media companion to work right now.

Just a quick couple of q's guys......

----------------

1. how are episode specials handled?

Eg i have

Lost - 05x00.avi
Lost - 05x01.avi
Lost - 05x02.avi

Only episode 1 & 2 are showing up in MC.....00 which is a recap is not.

TV-DB LINK ( http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=73739&seasonid=34530&lid=7 )

I have just noticed this is episode #9 in the specials season....how would i do this?
----------------------

2. How are double episodes handled with MC & XBMC .....

I have:

Underbelly.S02E01-02.HDTV.XviD-BEATEN

What naming convention does MC pick up with for double eps?

TV-DB LINK ( http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=85053&seasonid=40680&lid=7 )

Specials need to be named as season 0
so
Lost - 00x09.avi would return specials episode 9

For multipart episodes
s01e01-e02-e03-e04
or
01x01-x02-x03-x04 etc
The above is not case sensitive and you dont need to seperate the episodes
s01e01e02e03e04.avi would work fine
