v3.237 MC is creating multiple NFOs for single movie

I have a directory which contains 8 video files, named dirname_pt1.avi, dirname_pt2.avi, dirname_pt3.avi ... dirname_pt8.avi etc.
Where dirname is the directory name.

MC created an NFO file for parts 1, 6, 7 & 8, when I was expecting it only to create an NFO for pt1.

Any ideas?

I checked the filenames carefully, and in fact, just to be sure there wasn't a funny character causing havoc in the filename, I copied the directory name into each filename again. Still didn't help.

BTW, I should add that as this movie was not in IMDB, I manually edited the NFO for pt1 of this movie.
However, I thought that as the NFO existed, that would prevent MC attempting to re-recognise the movie after hitting the 'Search for new movies' button, but it doesn't and MC tries to recognise the movie again, thus creating new NFOs for parts 6, 7 and 8. For some reason it doesn't create NFOs for parts 2, 3, 4, 5.

I assumed as these 8 parts should be watched from part 1 to part 8, and naming them pt1 thru pt8, that only one NFO would be generated.

Within a directory, what makes MC decide that a file needs an NFO generated?

It was my (erroneous) belief that the 4 parts would cover pretty much anything movie may be in (not including rar files) was 4 parts. I added the filters to look for upto 5 parts.

Are you sure that the media you are working with would not be better served in the TV Section.

I've increased the max filter to look for upto 9 parts from the next build.

As it has not been shown on TV yet, I probably shouldn't treat it as a fake TV production, so I put it in the movies section which it doesn't really fit very well either, as it's a specialist documentary, but fits better than TV show.

Max filter of 9 would handle this one, but I've got another documentary that's also not a TV show, where that has more than 50 parts, so a limit of 9 clearly won't handle this one, and it will also fail to be recognised using TV scrapers, but it's not really a movie either, but fits better in that category perhaps.

Would it be possible to have a user-definable option in the preferences where the user can increase the default setting if required?

I presume it might have a performance problem if the max filter value is arbitrarily large?

I look forward to the time when XBMC has extra categories in addition to the two current ones for TV shows and Movies.

When do you think you might be making a new release of MC?

There will be another build released this weekend, probably tomorrow as there are still a couple of things I want to look at.

To be honest, I need to rewrite the sub that parses the filename, it has not changed since the very first version of MC, and is as well written as it could be. The fact that it works has kept my focus elsewhere.

I'll look at adding a more customisable system using regex over the next couple of weeks.

Ah, good a new release

So it sounds like the value of 9 for max filter for the new release will handle the first video I mentioned.

And for the 50+ part one, perhaps a future release will be able to handle it after it has been reviewed and modified.

Billy, please increase this limit to 99, that should cover the bases for everyone. Or even better, allow the use of regexps for movies, as they are used for TV shows!

I would like to add my own request to have better support for multipart (stacked) movies, where there are more than 9 parts in the stack. The ideal would be to have a set of regex specifications, just as there is one for TV shows.

I have been doing some tests with movies that are composed of "problematic" files, where the problems come from two sources:

1. More than 9 files. In my test, my movie has 15 parts.
   
2. Each file is named "Movie PartXX.mkv", where XX is 01, 02, etc. Notice the leading 0; it might conceivably be 001, 002, etc.
   

XBMC 10.0 works perfectly with these naming conventions, stacking them with no problem. But MC sees this as a 7 part movie (1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15, skipping all parts whose names start with 0).

So, again, I respectfully request that movies also support a regex for the case when they are stacked.
