I can't read the first post but it probably is a duplicate of this one: sorry.

The name that Media Companion is giving to the fanart for movies seems to be incorrect for stacked AVIs.

http://xbmc.org/forum/showpost.php?p=223302&postcount=2

If you have 2 stacked AVIs for a movie eg.

VTS_05_1.cd1.avi
VTS_05_1.cd2.avi

then the fanart has to be named

VTS_05_1-fanart.jpg

Right now it is naming it

VTS_05_1.cd1-fanart.jpg

and XBMC can't find it.

If I rename it then Media Companion doesn't see it.

Love the program otherwise Smile

media companion needs to rename the movie-fanart jpeg differently... Wink

I should be able to do this, i'm just not sure what the filename structure needs to be for unformatted filenames.

eg

People are saying that the following is true:-

moviename cd1.avi
moviename cd2.avi
moviename-fanart.jpg
That would seem easy. But what if the filename is unformatted eg:-

moviename.divx.cd1.dutch subs.AC3.avi
moviename.divx.cd2.dutch subs.AC3.avi

is it
moviename.divx-fanart.jpg
or still
moviename-fanart.jpg
or even
moviename.divx.dutch subs.AC3-fanart.jpg

I need to know the logic that is used by XBMC to make this work with 100% compatability. If a few of you that use multi-part media would experiment a bit and let me know i'll look at implementing it.

i'll test this for you later...

i dont know if xbmc stack files with the cd information in the middle... but the information i got on xbmc forums, was that the fanart image must have the same name of the stacked file... i just dont know how xbmc stack files like this...

i'll be back... later Laughing

I tested 3 movies and this worked for me:

moviename.divx.dutch subs.AC3-fanart.jpg

Removing the CD1 seems to do it.
I'll keep testing though to make sure.

Seems to be the solution

If you replace
.cd1
and
[space]cd1
with nothing it should work

http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37603

In this thread at xmbc.org spiff states that the plan was that XBMC was supposed to recognize a file just named fanart.jpg if "use folder names for lookups" is checked. That would make this a whole lot easier.

Apparently he forgot to add that bit of code.

I'm not sure if this will be added or not due to the feature freeze.

This is something different, if you place a file named fanart.jpg in a folder, this would be the fanart for that folder (Easy in tv series). What is discussed her is stacked movies.

UPDATE: from xbmc forums.....

http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37603 -- BOTTOM POST

Quote :
"Alexander CD1.avi" + "Alexander CD2.avi" will get stacked to "Alexander.avi". Fanart has to be named: "Alexander-fanart.jpg".

It seems MC is making the fanart: Alexander CD1-fanart.jpg which is not recognizable by XBMC, and if i rename it to "Alexander-fanart.jpg" myself, MC will auto make another one.

Not sure what the options are...leave it as is & wait for XBMC devs to fix, if they do ?

I'm working on this to comply with XBMC stacking

semi-off-topic :

the same problem exists with multipart videos and the .NFO files.
currently i am using (as many other XBMC users) the following structure :
MovieName.nfo
MovieName-CD1.avi
MovieName-CD2.avi

but... when MC scans and creates the files it generates the following :
MovieName-CD1.nfo
MovieName-CD1.avi
MovieName-CD2.avi

could you please employ the same fix (like the one with fanart) to the .NFO file creation?
or is it possible to have the .NFO and -FANART options being selected as a system setting?

thanks for a truely great tool!

XBMC picks up the nfo if it is moviename-cd1.nfo

But yeah a consistent file naming convention across the whole movie would be good, but it works currently.

In the latest version 1.994 this problem still exists. Are you having trouble fixing it?
