Multi-Disc DVD's in Stored in Folders Empty
PostSubject: Multi-Disc DVD's in Stored in Folders   Multi-Disc DVD's in Stored in Folders Icon_minitimeSat Mar 07, 2009 10:29 am

I've done a fair amount of searching on this subject and I can't seem to find a clear answer. I have a few movies that are spread across multiple discs. I'm storing all my movies on a media server, but I can't seem to get the multi-disc ones working. MC sees them just fine, and I don't mind having a "Pearl Harbor Disc 1" and "Pearl Harbor Disc 2" in the XBMC library. Hower XBMC will not show both, and it will not play the one that does show in the library.

By the way, I'm storing the raw DVD files (IFO's and VOB's) on the server. Can anyone offer some advice please?

This is a tricky one, the reason it will not see disk 2 is that MC stacks multipart movies so that the nfo for each movie is only created once, Most folks dont want to see each part of a movie, or have a seperate nfo created for each.
"Disk 2" is picked up as the 2nd part of a mujltipart. You could try using a multidvdname that is not supported by MC stacking such as "Pearl Harbour Dsk 1".

As for playback, i'm not sure I added VIDEO_TS.IFO support yet, playback is one of those low priority things that needs a bit of work on.

Just out of curiosity, how does XBMC handle them? Anything I do needs to be compatable with XBMC.

Hmmm... I think we probably crossed up a little on the communication. My apologies. I'll try and describe in more detail what's actually going on.

Here's my directory structure. I essentially treat each disc from a two-disc set as a separate movie.

\\server\Movies\Pearl Harbor Disc 1 (contains raw files from Disc 1; IFO's, VOB's, etc.)
\\server\Movies\Pearl Harbor Disc 2 (contains raw files from Disc 2; IFO's, VOB's, etc.)

MC behavior:
MC created an nfo file in each directory (as I was expecting). I used the MC edit feature to alter the titles to "Pearl Harbor Disc 1" and "Pearl Harbor Disc 2" respectively. MC seems to recognize the different nfo's just fine. However, none of my movies will play via MC, but that's a different issue and something I don't care about at this point.

XBMC Behavior:
When I scan my movie folders using XBMC (on XBox), it builds the library just fine for all but these dual-disc movies (I only have 3 or 4 of them). The XBMC library only shows the first disc of each two-disc set. When I try to play the one that is showing, nothing happens. No errors, no movie. All the other "single-disc" movies play just fine. I'm obviously doing something wrong. I wish I knew what it was.

Any thoughts?

By the way. Great work. This application is a huge improvement over the built in XBMC features. I had so many headaches that I stopped using the library function....until now. Thanks!

PostSubject: Re: Multi-Disc DVD's in Stored in Folders   Multi-Disc DVD's in Stored in Folders Icon_minitimeSun Mar 08, 2009 9:12 am

Ok, I figured it out.

I had to use a different naming scheme to prevent the "auto-stacking" feature of the xbmc library from combining the two entries. I used "Pearl Harbor - One" and "Pearl Harbor - Two", and all is well.

Thanks again for your response. Looking foward to additional features. Especially for my music media.

One small suggestion. Please add some more "feedback" items like an hour glass cursor or progress bars. There are some areas of the application where I don't have a clue if it's doing anything. It's a matter of waiting to see if something will happen. For those of us with large libraries, it can be a little confusing as to whether anything is going on.
