TVDB looks to be down maybe thats the problem...is it down for anyone else or just me?

Just wondering Billy is there any way to detect that IMDB/TVDB is down, perhaps you can do a check to see if something is there that should always be there....if its not pop up a message to that effect?

Sounds like a good idea to me

It is a very good idea, I just would not know how to do it.

I did consider reducing the timeout, but TMDB in particular can be very slow and I didn't want to cause an issue with a low timeout, then there are issues that can be caused by an invalid url, for example when scraping an episode if the episode does not exist then nothing is returned.

This is a problem I am very aware of, and would like to fix, but have been distracted for the last couple of months with other things. I have also noticed that most other software also has similar issues, and while this is not a big problem when an occasional web request is made, when scraping a movie their can be a great many web requests.
Here is a list of the webpages scraped for a single movie.

Google - get IMDB ID (If no ID is available)
IMDB - get id if google fails (If no ID is available)
IMDB - get body
IMDB - get plot
IMDB - get trailer
IMDB - get list of poster urls
IMDB - download poster
IMPA - get list of poster urls
IMPA - download poster
MPDB - get list of poster urls
MPDB - download poster
TMDB - get movie ID from API using imdb ID
TMDB - get list of posters using movie ID
TMDB - download poster
TMDB - get list of fanart using movie ID
TMDB - download fanart

Some of these may not be used depending on a users preferences, and while if enabled all available poster urls can be added to the nfo only a single poster is actually downloaded, but as you can see the problem is complex and I can see no obvious solution.

Billy is it as simple as pinging the root url...? I know this will not show if the API is down, but my understanding is that for TVDB at least the API is under the www.thetvdb.com url.

PS TVDB seems to be down as I speak....

Yeah, i just ran into this issue. But I went to the TV Show Selector, and I got an infitie loop from the error message saying TVDB was down. There was a message behind it, but I couldn't see it, and I had to Ctrl+Alt+del to kill MC.

i'm having the same problem and it's been going on for a while. I am getting the same info in the log after scraping. I tried scraping many times for two shows that i downloaded episodes for but same problem keeps happening

could it be a connection timeout problem with TVDB?

Check that you are using "Default" sortorder.

It can be toggled on the main show details form.

It was set to default but I toggled to DVD then back to default and all seems to now be working. Cheers Billy!
