After I'd added some folders and clicked on Search for new files, Media Companion found some but then I got BSOD referring to fwdrv.sys, which is the driver for my firewall, Kerio v2.1.5.

Some information from Wikipedia....

Sunbelt Personal Firewall (formerly known as Kerio Personal Firewall and later Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall), is a desktop personal firewall originally developed by Kerio Technologies, and acquired by Sunbelt in December 2005.

Kerio no longer maintains this software, Kerio has since released WinRoute as its firewall solution.

Perhaps the firewall software is now too far out of date....

Had you tried other versions of MC, did they work?

Cheers

Yeah I know it's old but I haven't found a firewall that I like as much as this one and it generally works OK.

I've only tried the latest MC so far. What other version of MC would you suggest I try?

Well I'm not aware of any major changes in the way that MC accesses the internet so I wouldn't know if going back would be of benefit.

Can you put an exception in for MC so it has unrestricted access.....?

I don't think it does anything other than normal port 80 html requests.....

Cheers

That's worth a try. I'll give it a go.

Thanks

As has been said, MC only uses standard port 80 web requests.

It sounds like .NET has an issue with Kerio Personal Firewall, unfortunatly I dont have the faintest idea of what would fix it, if the product was still supported I would say contact the vendor and get some advice, in this instance, it may be better to consider updating to a newer product.

It seems to be OK now I've manually added a rule to allow MC through my firewall.

I can't remember if I had the firewall on Deny Unknown or Ask Me First, but either MC/.NET didn't like being blocked or the popup that comes along with the latter option. I use MediaPortal which I believe uses .NET, so I don't think Kerio and .NET and particularly incompatible.
