v 3.2.5.1 Error on launch Empty
PostSubject: v 3.2.5.1 Error on launch   v 3.2.5.1 Error on launch Icon_minitimeSun Apr 04, 2010 3:52 am

Hi, When I launch Media Companion I get an Error that says "Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Program Files\Media Companion\html_templates'. (full text of error copied below). I can click continue and the program will run, but it is buggy (it crashes and I get similar errors frequently). I am on Windows 7 32-bit and would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
David

v 3.2.5.1 Error on launch Empty
PostSubject: Re: v 3.2.5.1 Error on launch   v 3.2.5.1 Error on launch Icon_minitimeSun Apr 04, 2010 6:16 am

Hi davem666 & welcome,

Can you confirm that you have extracted the complete rar file with the folder structure? Do you have a folder called html_templates under your Media Companion folder?

It may be an user access rights issue in Win7 (UAC), can I get you to confirm the above & then perhaps try & run MC as administrator. You can do that by right clicking on the MC executable & choosing run as...

Thirdly, it may need to go into your user directory such as...

C:\Users\[MyAccount]\MediaCompanion

Let us know if that makes any difference.

Cheers

v 3.2.5.1 Error on launch Empty

Yep, as stormy said, there are certain files that media companion is dependant on, they are all included in the rar archive you downloaded, including the 'html_templates' folder.

Extract the entire archive, including all the folders to a folder on your machine.

Media Companion is a portable application, this means that it is not installed, and all needed files and folders are stored within the Media Companion folder, because of this Media Companion can easily be moved between machines, some even have MC located on a USB drive.
Uninstalling is as simple as deleting the folder

Because of this, Media Companion saves data to this folder. Windows 7 and Windows Vista stop programs from making changes to some locations (Google 'User Account Control'), including 'Program Files'.
Extract the folder to a location that will allow MC to save its cache's and settings such as your desktop, or documents folder.

Success...

I moved the Media Companion folder out of "program files" and it's working like a charm now.

Thanks,
David
