Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs Empty
PostSubject: Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs   Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs Icon_minitimeWed Oct 29, 2008 1:16 pm

Hi

I posted this in the XBMC forums but thought I'd make it here too

I currently have NFOs for my movie files in the same folders as my movies, with the same name too - e.g. The Dark Knight (2008).avi and The Dark Knight (2008).nfo

Will Media Companion overwrite these? The ones I currently have contain bitrates, resolution, etc. that I want to keep in case they become handy some day...

can Media Companion have an option to rename existing NFOs to movie-old.nfo, and then create movie.nfo itself, so that it doesn't have to overwrite existing ones?

Cheers

As long as the nfo file conforms to the XBMC nfo standard then it will be used and not overwritten.

By XBMC nfo standard I mean :-

<movie>
<title>Jumper</title>
<rating>5.9</rating>
<year>2008</year>

<outline>A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them.</outline>
<plot>David Rice is a high school student in Ann Arbor, abandoned by his mother at five, enamored with Millie, a fellow student, and picked on by at least one classmate. On a winter's day, while about to drown, he discovers he can transport himself instantaneously to anyplace on earth. He leaves town, goes to New York City, robs a bank vault, and comes to the attention of a shadowy group of government hunters. Eight years later, the hunters, led by the murderous Roland, get a fix on David. He heads home, searches out Millie, invites her to travel with him, and only later realizes that Roland and his crew are seriously deadly. Is everyone close to David in danger?</plot>

nfo files that do not use this standard will be overwritten (for example scene nfos files).

It would be possible to rename these files, I am not sure it is neccesary though.

Did you know that media companion uses medianfo.dll to display all file information as follows :-

General
Filename :- E:\Movies\Jumper.avi
FileSize :- 998 MiB
Format :- AVI
Format Info :- Audio Video Interleave

Video
Duration :- 1h 28mn
Resolution :- 704x304
Codec :- XviD 1.1.2
Codec Link :- http://mediaarea.net/XVID
Framerate :- 23.976 fps
Video Bitrate :- 1 123 Kbps
Profile :- Streaming Video@L1
Scan Type :- Progressive

Audio
Audio Codec :- AC3
Codec Link :-
Channels :- 6
Mode :- Constant
Bitrate :- 448 Kbps
Min Bitrate :-
Sample Rate :- 48.0 KHz

Just click the "File Details" Button located on the main movie browser page.

Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs Empty
PostSubject: Re: Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs   Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs Icon_minitimeSat Nov 08, 2008 2:10 pm

I came here to ask for the same thing as I don't want to lose the existing scene nfo's mainly so I can track the source rather than any of the other data.

So, some thoughts on how to achieve desired result of keeping existing nfo's but also use MC to generate full IMDB XML nfo's for importing into XBMC for faster and more reliable IMDB scraping...

1. Allow the option to separate the folder scanning and .nfo generation processes into 2 steps
2. Allow the .nfo files to be output into a different folder
3. Allow renaming of existing .nfo if it exists (in any form) when writing out the new .nfo

Hope you could consider these options.

Cheers.

PostSubject: Re: Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs   Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs Icon_minitimeSun Nov 09, 2008 2:05 am

Well what I ended up doing was making a top-level folder called NFOs - I searched for *.nfo in my movies folders, cut them, and pasted them in here.

Then I ran Media Companion to generate NFOs for each movie.

Now I have my scene NFOs safe in a special 'NFOs' folder.

One nice thing would be for Media Companion to write the file details (e.g. resolution, audio streams and channels, etc.) into the actual NFO it creates!

just do this to rename yo .nfo files recursively (works in Vista)

FORFILES -p V:\ -s -m *.nfo -c "CMD /C move @FILE @FILE.orig"

where V:\ is your movie folder

I could do with the opposite, an option to force an overwrite.

I've got some old nfos that are the right format but contain incorrect info. I know I could manually delete them and re-scan but there's a bunch of files and I can't remember which is which. Very Happy

Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs Empty
PostSubject: Re: Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs   Option to Not Overwrite Existing NFOs Icon_minitimeFri Feb 18, 2011 12:33 am

Billy,

I have recently rescraped all of my files with XBMC and exported the nfo files in order for XBMC to use them. I then tried a test scrape on one movie and the nfo file was overwritten.
I am pretty sure that the nfo files exported by XBMC meet the XBMC nfo standard and yet it was overwritten.
Is there a way to prohibit this behavior as I do not want to overwrite the nfo files made by XBMC?
I would really like to use MC for scraping my art, but can not if the overwriting thing can't be fixed.

Thanks,
Mark
