Is it possible to rename folders? Empty
PostSubject: Is it possible to rename folders?   Is it possible to rename folders? Icon_minitimeFri Jan 29, 2010 7:00 pm

I have most of my TV Shows ripped in a DVD format.

Show Name/Season XX/Show Name.SXXeXX/Video_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB

I played around with the renaming function and it works well for renaming the .VOB files
However, I was hoping there would be a way to leave the actual files alone and just rename the folder. My goal is to get the episode name in the folder structure such as

Show Name/Season XX/Show Name - Episode Name - SXXeXX/Video_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB

Is this possible with Media Companion or can you point me to an application that will?

Thank you

with DVD folders the best way is to simply use the foldername and leave the filenames alone.

If MC sees the file "VIDEO_TS.IFO" then it assumes that it is a DVD folder and ignores the vob files. eg
TV Show/Season 1/S01E01/VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO
or, because the VIDEO_TS folder is not needed,
TV Show/Season 1/S01E01/VIDEO_TS.IFO

It should also be noted that MC can handle multiple episodes located on a dvd by using the correct naming convention.
eg
TV Show/Season 1/S01E01E02E03E04/VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO
or
TV Show/Season 1/S01E05E06E07E08/VIDEO_TS.IFO
etc

With multiple episodes, both MC and XBMC will list the seperate episodes, but selecting any of the episodes to playback will only launch the dvd, not the individual episode.

Hope this helps

I realize that it works and I want to leave the filenames alone. In fact that is how I have it right now. What I was looking to do was rename the Folder to include the episode title. This isn't a huge deal for me but the inspiration comes from using Orb. I am away from home alot and use Orb to stream my media. I don't know if you are familiar with that program but basically it lets you navigate your harddrive and select anything you want on it. The problem is that when I want to watch a TV show SXXEXX doesn't give me much information about what I'm selecting. So it is really just a nice to have thing that I am after.

I did have another question though about MC concerning the DVD file format. When it creates the nfo files, It makes one for each VOB file and for the IFO file. This results in MC listing the episode at least twice. If the show has multiple VOB files then it shows even more. I have noticed that in XBMC it only shows one instance of the episode so all is good there but within MC it tells me I have something like 2500 episodes. Can something be done about this or do I just live with it?

Thanks

Sorry, but I mistunderstood what you were asking,

At the moment there is no way for MC to rename the folders, it is maybe something I will look at in the future, kind of got my hands full at the moment.

As for the multiple vob nfo error, what build of MC are you using, I was sure I had fixed that issue. vob files located in a folder with "VIDEO_TS.IFO" should be ignored.

It has definately been added to the code, although it may be that I fixed it after the last build.

I was using 3.182. After upgrading to 3.198, deleting the .nfo and .tbn files and rescanning the issue was taken care of. Thanks for that.

As to the folder rename option. Should I post that under the feature request topic? I'd like to have similar options as the file rename. Because even though I originally stated I was hoping for TV Name - Episode Title - SXXEXX I think I'd prefer to drop the TV Show Name. Since it is a subfolder of TV Show Name anyway I would obviously know which show I'm looking at.

Thanks for your help and a great program.
