| Subject: How do I get XBMC to recognize the .nfo files? Fri Sep 17, 2010 10:50 pm | |
| Hi, I've just used Media Companion to organize my movie collection, and it worked great. Only had to edit a few movies manually, and all folders got their own .nfo, .jpg and .tbn files. So far so good. But how do I get XBMC to use the info in the .nfo files? I deleted the old media database by removing and adding the source. But I don't get any info about the movies in the library mode. So I tried to scrape my collection again, assuming that XMBC would check the folders before checking the internet, but that didn't work; XBMC scraped from the web.
So, how do I get XBMC to display the info from Media Companion?
Thanks for any replies!

| XBMC should use the nfo file if say you have moviename.avi & the nfo is also named moviename.nfo. If the nfo is missing information XBMC will then try & access that from the internet.
Now in saying that on occasions I have had the issue where changing the nfo information & getting XBMC to update hasn't worked. I haven't been able to narrow down the reason either but I'm suspecting that for some reason XBMC treats a web scraped TVshow different to an nfo scraped show of the same name. At one stage it was to the point it wouldn't see new episodes unless I choose to refresh from the show information window....
Its like something gets stored in the library that makes XBMC see the show as different somehow...

| Thanks. My folders are organized like this:
\Movies\Moviename (year)\ Moviename.avi Moviename.srt (I have subs on all my movies) Moviename.nfo Moviename.tbn Moviename-fanart.jpg
What can I do to make XBMC recognize the nfo files? Should I try reinstalling the program?
Edit: Does the fact that my folder is named differently from the rest of the files make a difference?

| There is a setting in the Movie preferences..... Use Folder Names For Scraping
Try turning that on & then doing a rebuild.

| Are you sure that the data is being scraped from the web? XBMC's behaviour is to check for an nfo file first then the web.
Have you enabled the setting to download actor images to the .actors folder, it's located in the general preferences. If not then XBMC will download the actor thumbs from the internet using the urls located within the nfo files.

| I appear to be having the same issue. In Media Companion my info all appears to be updated and correct, but in XBMC it is not all showing up. For instace, every movie shows INFO UNAVAILABLE for directed by, written by, rating, and IMDB. Also, I've created sets in MC but they have yet to appear in XBMC. I had to rebuild the entire library just to get the proper posters to show up (but it did not fix the INFO UNAVAILABLE errors.) I've also re-set the content and scanned the folders, but to no avail.
Any help would be great!

| Dharma is still in beta so there is a possibility that it is a bug.
May be worth your while paying a visit to XBMC forums.
Just for reference, in order to use nfo files XBMC supports a number of formats - MC's default method is using movie names. eg movietitle.avi movietitle.nfo movietitle.tbn movietitle-fanart.jpg movietitle-trailer.xxx
The only file needed is the media file and the nfo file. Check that your nfo files contain metadata useable by XBMC.
Also - some media managers use different standards eg moviefilename.avi movie.nfo fanart.jpg poster.tbn
If you have a file such as movie.nfo within the same directory as the movietitle.nfo then it may cause problems since i am not sure of the order that XBMC uses to check.
