oh it doesn't support movies containing movies packed with RAR?

uh when will it be support for RARed movies? I refuse to extract movies to ensure that I can use RAR for checking the consistancy of my movies.

I can possibly add support immediately depending on the requirements of XBMC.

I need to know which of the following is true?

  1. The rar archives need to be treated like a folder, with Media Companion generated nfo and poster files being written to and read from inside the archive.

    or

  2. Files created by Media Companion are stored outside the archive, eg

    movie1.rar
    movie1.nfo
    movie1.tbn
    movie1-fanart.jpg
    movie1-trailer.mpg

If 1 is the case then I just don't know how this can be achieved using .net

If 2 is the case then this can certainly be done with a few possible limitations. Medianfo only returns a few details for media files inside an archive, and most mediaplayers cant playback these, this can be gotten around by selecting something like VLC as the default player in the preferences.

I would appreciate if someone would clarify which of the above is the case.

to be honest, i dont know exactly.

i guess you should just fire up xbmc for windows and experiment a little.

i've been told that I should make sure transparent archives is turned on., so i guess that leaves me with option 1.

make sure it also support more than one cd.

e.g.
No.Country.for.Old.Men.DVDRip.XviD-DiAMOND
dmd-nocountry.nfo <- scene NFO
Cd1 <folder>
dmd-nocountry-cd1.rar, dmd-nocountry-cd1.r00 ...dmd-nocountry-cd1.r47 (multipart archive)
Cd2 <folder>
dmd-nocountry-cd2.rar, dmd-nocountry-cd2.r00 ...dmd-nocountry-cd2.r47 (multipart archive)

When playing it on the xbox it works fine, however it has problems with listing it. I guess it should only be created a library nfo for CD1.

by the way. scene-nfo's always have imdb url in them. why dont you take advantage of that?

e.g. you find the line in the no country release:
¦¦¦¦ MORE iNFORMATiON @ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0477348/

why not trigger on *imdb.com/* and then just use that so I dont have to define the movie a 2nd time?

it would also be nice if you could make a backup of all nfo's overwritten to a separate dir (subdir of media companion?)

I've added the .rar extension to the next version, I don't know if it will work, but i'ts worth trying.

This has been added to the next build people have the option to rename theire scene .nfo files ".info", if this contains an valid imdbID (tt0477348) then it will be used.

by the way
if found rar, check if the parent dir is CD1

if parent is CD2 then you should NOT add it

I haven't forgotton. I just can't help thinking that this wouldn't work.

It would motivate me if someone was to test this with XBMC to see if it would actually work.

eg

create a test nfo, tbn, and fanart files and place it with the rar (Not inside the rar) and see if XBMC imports the nfo.

Well, I have gotten it working

[img=http://messyshare.com/out.php/t217640_screenshot000.jpg]

Here's what you do:

1. You just scan for folders okay? Do not check if there is a movie file inside (e.g. *.avi). Just list them.
2. Based upon dirname, try to detect movie name (or if existing scene.nfo contain imdb info). If not just create a no name and we can edit it later
3. The example over have the 3 files folder.jpg, movie.tbn and movie.nfo:

2Pride.and.Glory.DVDRip.XviD-DiAMOND (just ignore the "2" in dirname first, it was just a test)
2Pride.and.Glory.DVDRip.XviD-DiAMOND\folder.jpg
2Pride.and.Glory.DVDRip.XviD-DiAMOND\movie.tbn
2Pride.and.Glory.DVDRip.XviD-DiAMOND\movie.nfo (with scraping xml info)

That's it! It works fine. It also indexes fine in Library mode. Tested in latest Windows XBMC from http://mediafire.com/xbmc

The full structure before was:
2Pride.and.Glory.DVDRip.XviD-DiAMOND\Cd1\dmd-prideglory-cd1.rar (r00, r01 etc)
2Pride.and.Glory.DVDRip.XviD-DiAMOND\Cd2\dmd-prideglory-cd2.rar (r00, r01 etc)
2Pride.and.Glory.DVDRip.XviD-DiAMOND\dmd-prideglory.nfo (scene nfo)

So this means that what I actually need here is the following:

Make an option in preferences for also threat all folders as movies.
1. Scan all folders for avi etc like you do today
2. When scanning, list all folders (do not list "CD1", "CD2", "Subs" and "Sample" folders)
3. Then make just a movie.nfo in those folders where no AVI like in step 1
4. I would be very happy.

I also made a post on the xbmc forum. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

" Hi Billy, I tried your latest version 2.107 but the compressed movies are ignored.

For example(note I keep al my movies in folders) :

Assume I have one directory with a potter.info with the imdb url in it, and if I make a dummy "potter.avi" the imdb url in the info files gets scraped.fine.

However If I have my potter movie in a compressed .rar .i.e. potter.rar (and hence no potter.avi) and I still have my potter.info in the same directory which contains the imdb url the program ignors my potter.rar movie and says there are no movies. The correct handeling should be to scrape the movie based on the .info file and associate the naming to the file name of the .rar.

many thanks for this great program!

It would be good to be able to define our own list of movie extensions, even if not in the UI but requiring editing of the "config.xml"...

PostSubject: nfo file naming   RAR support Icon_minitimeSun Jan 25, 2009 4:35 pm

Really great the rar support is back. I tried version 2.121

There is one remaining bug:

from the log file scanning for new movies, the following nfo is created:"nfo saved as :- Z:\Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)\Charlie post Harry Potter en de gevangene van Azkaban.part001.nfo

It should be saved without the ".part00x". The correct naming should be "Charlie post Harry Potter en de gevangene van Azkaban.nfo" in order for xbmc to pick it up.

I hope this is a little fix...I am very happy.

+++edit+++
The .rar format looks like:

movie.part001.rar
movie.part002.rar
movie.part003.rar
ect

the .nfo file should be movie.nfo and not movie.part001.nfo for xbmc to find it.

++++
anyways, I donated, which is a little thanks for your all your efforts.

PostSubject: version 2.125 - .nfo files scanned for imdb ID   RAR support Icon_minitimeFri Jan 30, 2009 12:11 am

Hi,
thanks for the update I appreciate all the work!

I have:

moviename.part001.rar ect and
moviename.nfo containing a IMDB ID

When scrapping this rar movie, MC does not scan, the moviename.nfo for the IMDB ID.

It does work when using:

moviename.part001.nfo containing a IMDB ID

it would be more logical however if MC picked up (and/or) "moviename.nfo" when scanning for new movies in the rar handeling

other than the above it works great!

cheers

Thanks working nicely for movies now, any thought of adding rar support for tv shows? I generally keep mine as scene rar's and would like to use the program for tv as well as movies?
