Feature request:

How about a button that checks for MC updates or a message popup that says a new version of MC is available do you wish to download?

Cheers

This is on my list of todo's

gen1 actually checked for updates on startup - but i received complaints about it. I will add it to one of the menus at some point.

Perhaps Billy the check for update could be run on a different thread & just show an icon or something when an update is available? It could even run after the database is loaded... Perhaps the issues with the update feature was it slowed the startup time?

Cheers

I believe the complaints were due to MC checking the homepage for the latest version number on startup. People objected to MC accessing the internet without permission.

I could possibly add the option to auto check for updates in the prefs - disabled by default.

Would it check the forums or the main page?

Cause the main page still shows 2.135

Yes perhaps a preference setting but also a little detail as to what web site it is going to access - I'm guessing on initial install Windows Firewall blocks MC & you will get the message about the web access.

The access is to a webpage on the main website, namely http://www.billyad2000.co.uk/versioncheck.htm.

It's is not up to date at the moment, if I introduce the code it will be a little different, the format will be as follows.

<mc_latest_version>
<beta>3.154</beta>
<beta_changes>Bugfix - Wrong medianfo.dll was included in distribution resulting in incorrect tags</beta_changes>
<beta_changes>Change - blank media nfo tags are no longer added to the nfo file</beta_changes>
<beta_download_link>url of beta file</beta_download_link>
<beta_info_url>url of forum thread</beta_info_url>
<stable_point>3.150</stable_point>
<stable_download_link>(url to download)</stable_download_link>
<stable_info_url>(url to info on main webpage)</stable_info_url>
</mc_latest_version>

This would allow people to view info about beta's, check the forum, and download beta builds, but would also allow people to see stable point releases.

I haven't quite reached the stable point release yet, although I am not far off. Most bugs have been eliminated, and the functionality of gen1 has largely been added. Just gotta bit of work with TV Shows first, and redo the preferences of course. The version check will likely be the last thing I add.

I think most of us live in the forum anyways - so checking for updates isn't too hard. The feature would be nice as as a toggle in the preference though. It would at least keep people up to date on the new version so they don't report out on older version bugs.
